Adam Driver Confirms Lead Villain Role in Michael Mann's Heat 2

Adam Driver has officially put months of industry speculation to rest, confirming his casting as the antagonist Otis Wardell in Michael Mann’s upcoming Heat 2. The actor, who previously collaborated with the director on Ferrari, described the project’s screenplay as a streamlined, high-intensity departure from the source material.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver joked about the confirmation, noting that while he had been cautious about discussing the project, he is eager to step into the role of the psychopathic gang leader. He also addressed concerns regarding the production timeline following a recent shooting accident involving Mann at a Los Angeles gun range. Driver clarified that the director is recovering well and remained active at work immediately following the incident, adding that the scheduled December start date for filming remains unchanged.

While Driver expressed enthusiasm for the Heat 2 ensemble—which includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis and Christian Bale as Lt. Vincent Hanna—his interview also served to close the chapter on his Star Wars tenure. The actor confirmed that a previously discussed project titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, developed with Steven Soderbergh, is officially scrapped. Despite the support from fans who campaigned for the character's return, Driver stated that the opportunity has passed, shifting his focus entirely to the upcoming crime saga.
