Waitrose, Toolstation and Morrisons Lead 2026 RTIH Innovation Finalists

Waitrose, Toolstation, and Morrisons have emerged as top contenders for the Most Innovative UK Retailer title at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards. The shortlist highlights a diverse array of technological integration, ranging from autonomous checkout systems and digital shelf labeling to advanced smart locker services and AI-driven product discovery.

The finalists were selected following a record number of submissions, reflecting a broader trend of retailers aggressively adopting digital solutions to streamline operations and enhance customer engagement. DFS Group is recognized for its massive scale-up of 3D product experiences, while Euro Car Parts has overhauled its automotive data management through the Feedonomics platform. Goddiva joins the list for its successful transition of AI from experimental use to a core business capability.

Morrisons stands out for its multi-pronged approach, which includes trialing AI-powered Caper Smart Trolleys, automated food safety probing, and efficient online picking systems. Meanwhile, Toolstation is being honored for its 24/7 smart locker solution in Battersea, and Waitrose, in partnership with SOLUM, is mid-deployment of over three million electronic shelf labels. A judging panel will select the winners, with the final results to be unveiled on November 4 at The HAC in London.
