Tech hiring holds steady as industry demand for AI and infrastructure grows

The expansion was fueled by growth in cloud infrastructure, data processing, and semiconductor manufacturing. CompTIA’s latest analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicates that while total job postings dipped 2% from June, companies still introduced 260,000 new opportunities last month. This sustained volume suggests that foundational roles in support and systems engineering remain essential as firms integrate artificial intelligence into their long-term operations.

Seth Robinson, CompTIA’s vice president of research, noted that hiring is leveling off after earlier gains this year, yet the demand for specialized talent remains anchored in core infrastructure. AI and machine learning expertise accounted for 14,000 postings, but the highest volume of recruitment centered on established functions. Software developers led the market with 46,082 postings, followed by 34,454 for systems engineers and 24,370 for tech support specialists. Despite a slight decrease in total tech occupation employment, the sector’s unemployment rate edged down to 2.8%, underscoring a resilient workforce.
