Daisy Ridley Cast in Horror Film ‘Get Rid of It’

Daisy Ridley has joined the cast of “Get Rid of It,” a horror film about two sisters whose cross-country trip takes a disturbing turn. The announcement came a day after her “Star Wars” co-star Adam Driver said a proposed film about Ben Solo had been scrapped, while the status of Ridley’s own announced “New Jedi Order” movie remains unclear.

Ridley will play Harper, who becomes pregnant after a one-night stand with a drifter named Miller, played by Simon Rex. Sosie Bacon plays Harper’s sister, Jessie. The sisters are forced to fight for survival after discovering that what is growing inside Harper may not be human.

Ry Russo-Young, known for directing “Before I Fall,” will direct from a script by Gemma Holdway. Oscar-nominated producer David Lancaster is also attached. Filming is expected to start at the beginning of 2027, according to Deadline. Ridley shared the casting announcement on Instagram Stories with the word “Thrilled!” Russo-Young described the project as “propulsive and playful,” and said its strength lay in its point of view and “heart beneath the horror.”

The film is one of two new projects announced for Ridley. Deadline reported two weeks earlier that she had been cast as ocean scientist Lee Crane in a Paramount+ remake of “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.” Legendary TV is producing the series with the Irwin Allen Estate. Akiva Goldsman is writing and executive producing; Matt Shakman will also executive produce and direct. The writers’ room is underway, though production has not begun.

Ridley’s future in “Star Wars” remains unsettled. Her “New Jedi Order” movie was announced in 2023, but there have been few updates. Rumors say Simon Kinberg is writing a new trilogy set after the sequel films, with Jon Watts at the helm; Lucasfilm has not confirmed the project or Ridley’s role. Driver said on “The Rich Eisen Show” that “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” developed with director Steven Soderbergh for two years, was rejected by Disney because executives believed Ben Solo could not still be alive. “It’s over. No more ‘Star Wars,’” Driver said, adding that the fan response to the project’s cancellation had been “pretty incredible.”
