WuXi Biologics Launches 25th Manufacturing Site in Shanghai

Designed to handle both clinical and commercial volumes, the facility leverages a suite of single-use bioreactors to achieve an annual capacity of 9,000 liters. The site supports a wide range of production modes, including fed-batch and intensified perfusion, aimed at providing clients with cost-competitive solutions for complex biologics. By integrating advanced digital infrastructure and predictive modeling, the facility intends to streamline the transition from discovery to commercial supply.

CEO Dr. Chris Chen noted that the site acts as a strategic extension of their partners' own manufacturing capabilities. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader dual-sourcing strategy, which currently spans operations in China, the U.S., Ireland, Germany, and Singapore. The firm now oversees a global network of 25 drug substance and 18 drug product facilities, maintaining a consistent track record of regulatory compliance with major agencies including the FDA and EMA.
