Estée Lauder and Jo Malone Debut AI Scent Scanner on Pinterest

The Estée Lauder Companies has launched a new tool on Pinterest that translates a user’s saved visual pins into personalized fragrance recommendations. The Scent Scanner, currently rolling out in the US and France, analyzes board aesthetics, color palettes, and textures to curate custom Jo Malone London scent pairings for individual users.

This initiative expands on the brand's AI Scent Advisor introduced last year, moving away from text-based search queries to a visual-first approach. By connecting their Pinterest profile to the tool, users allow the algorithm to interpret their personal style and inspirations as a roadmap for fragrance discovery. The platform aims to bridge the gap between creative inspiration and commerce by identifying scents that align with a user’s existing visual identity.

Aude Gandon, Chief Digital and Marketing Officer at The Estée Lauder Companies, stated that the project seeks to meet consumers where their taste already lives rather than relying on traditional survey-based personalization. Pinterest VP of Product Marketing Julie Towns noted that the technology interprets the visual language users already cultivate on the site, turning the search process into an intuitive experience. Jo Malone London Global Brand President Jo Dancey emphasized that the goal is to provide fragrance suggestions that feel uniquely tailored to how an individual moves through the world.
