Katy Perry Reportedly Weighs Book and Series on Russell Brand Marriage

Katy Perry is reportedly considering an autobiography and docuseries about her marriage to Russell Brand, after years of declining offers while his criminal case was underway. The claims, attributed to sources cited by the Mail on Sunday, come days after Brand was convicted in London of rape and sexual assault.

Perry’s representatives have reportedly approached major streaming services, including Netflix and Hulu, about a possible project. Neither the singer nor the companies has publicly confirmed the discussions. A source told the newspaper that Perry had received several offers over the years but would not consider them until the trial ended.

The source described the marriage as “a very dark period” in Perry’s life and suggested she may have more to say about it. In a 2013 Vogue interview, Perry called Brand “very controlling” and said he struggled with her success and her role leading her tours. She also said she had once blamed herself for the marriage ending, before learning what she called “the real truth,” which she said she could not disclose at the time.

Perry and Brand married in India in October 2010. Their relationship ended 14 months later; Perry later said Brand told her by text message on December 31, 2011, that he wanted a divorce. She documented the strain of trying to save the marriage while on tour in her 2012 film, Katy Perry: Part of Me.

On November 5, a jury at Southwark Crown Court found Brand guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. He was acquitted of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. Brand denied the allegations during the trial and said his sexual encounters had been consensual. The judge ordered him into custody ahead of sentencing scheduled for November 9.

Perry was not called to give evidence. Court submissions showed that Brand’s lawyers objected to prosecutors referring to the former marriage in opening arguments, saying it was unrelated to the charges. Prosecutors agreed to remove those references, describing matters involving Perry as potentially sensitive. The article also recalls Perry’s joke at a July concert at Blenheim Palace, where she said she hoped her ex was not there because “he should be in jail.” At the time, Brand was awaiting trial and had denied the charges.
