The source said Lopez spent part of the summer talking with relatives and close friends about projects in development and the effect of recent results on her confidence. “There have been moments when she has wanted to call it quits on acting and focus instead on producing movies or TV projects and her music,” the insider said. The source also claimed she worries some actors may avoid working with her because of her recent flops.
Her recent screen projects have had mixed results. “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,” which Lopez financed with $20 million, drew harsh reviews. Netflix’s “Atlas” received a 17% Rotten Tomatoes score. The musical adaptation “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which she supported and was produced by former husband Ben Affleck, reportedly earned $1.8 million against a $30 million production budget.
Those figures contrast with earlier successes including “Maid in Manhattan,” which grossed $174 million worldwide, and the animated film “Home,” which brought in $386 million in 2015. Lopez has continued to score in music: her collaboration with David Guetta, “Save Me Tonight,” topped Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart.
Affleck, who produced “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” defended Lopez during an appearance on iHeartPodcasts’ “The Moment,” calling her “probably the hardest working person that I’ve ever known.” He said he had “enormous respect” for her achievements and argued that Hollywood applies a double standard to women. Lopez said on “CBS Sunday Morning” in September 2025 that criticism should not discourage people from pursuing their ambitions: “You can’t let that discourage you.”
