“Of course, I mean, we are family. Something like this brings people so much closer,” Curtis told Extra. She said sitting beside Jake during an interview was emotional, especially as he spoke about his parents and their relationship. “There hasn’t been a big public memorial yet, and so we’re all grieving,” she said.
The families’ bond stretches back decades. Rob and Michele were godparents to Annie, Curtis and Guest’s daughter, and Curtis and Guest married at Rob’s home in 1984. Curtis and Rob also appeared together on New Girl and The Bear; Guest worked with Rob on films including This Is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride.
Curtis paid tribute to Rob at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where she noted that he had won a Guest Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for The Bear. She called him “generous and kind, and funny as hell and a friend to all.” Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Curtis said she felt responsible for representing everyone who had known or admired him. The tribute was “a little tougher than I anticipated,” she said, adding that she had feelings of her own about his death.
Rob and Michele were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025, according to the supplied reporting. After their deaths, Curtis and Guest said their focus was on the couple’s children and immediate family, and pledged to offer support.
Curtis is scheduled to receive the inaugural Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award at the Children’s Institute’s Cape & Gown Gala on November 8. Jake will present it. The organization is led by Michele’s sister, Martine Singer, and was a cause close to the Reiners. Curtis told Extra she wants the evening to be “joyful” and “celebratory,” saying it is “not a memorial” but a chance to move forward together, inspired by the couple.
