Ingka Group Appoints Erika Intiso as Chief Sustainability Officer

Erika Intiso will take over as Chief Sustainability Officer at Ingka Group, the world’s largest Ikea franchisee, beginning November 15. She replaces Karen Pflug, who has led the company's green initiatives since 2021 and will remain with the organization through the end of the year to assist in the transition.

Intiso joins the global leadership team after serving as the Country Retail Manager for Ikea in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. During her tenure in those markets, she oversaw the local implementation of the company's sustainability agenda. Her new mandate involves scaling these efforts across the entire global retail value chain.

Her predecessor, Pflug, leaves a significant track record of environmental milestones. Under her guidance, Ingka Group successfully matched nearly 95% of its electricity consumption with renewable sources and achieved a 70% reduction in absolute emissions across its primary operations compared to 2016 levels. Ulrika Biesèrt, the group’s manager for people and sustainability, noted that the transition is intended to further integrate environmental goals directly into the firm’s core business strategy.
