Morrisons Joins Just Eat and Starship for Autonomous Robot Deliveries

Morrisons has launched an autonomous delivery trial in Cambourne, marking a significant expansion of the partnership between Just Eat and Starship Technologies. The initiative introduces robot-led logistics to an area previously without grocery delivery services, aiming to bolster capacity ahead of the upcoming festive shopping season.

The rollout in Cambridgeshire represents the fourth Morrisons location to integrate Starship’s autonomous robots, following initial deployments at three Morrisons Daily stores in Sunderland and Milton Keynes. By utilizing these units, the supermarket chain intends to streamline fulfillment during high-demand windows, including the retailer’s recurring 'Half Price Wednesdays' promotion.

Charlotte Exell, Group Online Director at Morrisons, noted that the service offers an exclusive delivery method for local customers, serving as a primary test for the brand in the region. Executives from both Just Eat and Starship Technologies emphasized that the technology is designed to improve delivery speed and reliability, while allowing the companies to gather direct consumer feedback to refine the automated shopping experience.
