The Dog Stop to Open First Kansas City Location in October

The expansion marks the debut of the national franchise in the region, managed by the husband-and-wife team. Charlie Tocco, a Rockhurst University graduate, transitioned from a career in public accounting to focus on the venture, while Ellen Tocco continues her work in health technology. The couple, who share their home with two dogs, chose the brand for its emphasis on individualized care and transparency. The facility will provide 8,500 square feet of indoor space and 1,500 square feet of outdoor play area, featuring specialized zones tailored to different energy levels and temperaments.

To ensure a low-stress environment, the staff will undergo specialized training through a partnership with Fear Free, a program focused on reducing anxiety in pets. Beyond standard care, the Toccos intend to integrate the facility into the local pet community by collaborating with rescue organizations and hosting adoption events. The site is designed to accommodate various needs, including a specific area for dogs that require one-on-one attention rather than group play, serving residents across Crown Center, Union Hill, Hyde Park, and the Crossroads district.
