Southern Land Company to develop 1,271-acre community in Chatham Park

The upcoming development will include a full 18-hole golf course, a 9-hole short course, and specialized practice facilities. By integrating these amenities into the existing Chatham Park framework—an 8,500-acre project led by Preston Development Company—the developers aim to create a destination that balances residential living with recreational space. For Tom Fazio, whose firm has designed over 200 courses globally, the project represents an opportunity to leverage the natural topography of the North Carolina landscape.

Southern Land Company, founded in 1986, currently manages a multi-billion dollar pipeline of projects across the United States, including major developments in Tennessee, Texas, and Colorado. Pittsboro Mayor Kyle Shipp noted that the addition of this project aligns with the region’s ongoing growth, while Preston Development co-founder Julian "Bubba" Rawl emphasized that the partnership brings a necessary layer of design expertise to the broader Chatham Park vision. The project is currently in the initial planning and visioning stages, with further details expected as development progresses.
