The new Portfolio Benchmarking service expands the existing Nearmap Portfolio Intelligence suite, shifting the focus from isolated internal audits to market-wide context. By analyzing over 100 million U.S. parcels—covering roughly 88% of the population—the system provides a reference point for roof conditions, including variables like ponding, staining, and missing shingles. This allows executives to see where their books deviate from local or national norms before those discrepancies impact long-term profitability.
Rob Jacobson, President and CEO of Rockford Mutual Insurance Company, noted that the data enables deeper conversations about the quality of an agent's book beyond simple loss ratios. For underwriters and actuaries, the tool provides granular benchmarks at the state, county, and ZIP code levels. This capability has already demonstrated financial utility; one super-regional carrier in the Northeast utilized the data to secure an 8% reduction in Probable Maximum Loss, resulting in $7 million in annual reinsurance savings.
Beyond underwriting, the platform targets agency management by highlighting performance gaps against market averages. This allows distribution teams to offer targeted support to underperforming agencies. By moving away from reliance on internal historical data alone, Nearmap aims to provide a shared, independent source of truth for strategic decisions regarding re-underwriting, rating, and market expansion.
