Bodycare returns to Derby with interactive 'Studio Store' concept

After collapsing into administration last year, health and beauty retailer Bodycare is staging a comeback, launching its second 'Studio Store' at the Derbion shopping centre on August 22. The new format moves beyond traditional retail by integrating a free-to-use broadcast space for local creators and community groups.

The Derby opening marks a pivotal step for the brand under new ownership. An investor group led by former The Body Shop and Molton Brown CEO Charles Denton acquired Bodycare’s intellectual property in late 2025, setting an ambitious target to open 15 new UK locations throughout 2026 and reach 150 stores within five years. Following an initial test in Sheffield, the Derby location highlights the retailer's pivot toward an experiential model.

Beyond its core value-focused health and beauty range, the store features K-Beauty collections, a professional piercing studio, and the Technic cosmetics line. The centerpiece, however, is the Creator Studio—a broadcast facility designed to foster local engagement. Denton describes the strategy as a move to transform shopping into a destination for discovery, where live content and expert-led events replace the standard transactional experience. Derbion Managing Director Beth McDonald noted that the brand's return aligns with a wider influx of new tenants at the centre, positioning the store as a hub for both commerce and community storytelling.
