Uber Eats and Zipline Partner to Scale Autonomous Drone Deliveries

Targeting a massive shift in logistics, Uber Technologies and drone specialist Zipline have announced a strategic partnership aimed at reaching one million daily autonomous deliveries across the United States by the end of 2029. The initial rollout of the service is scheduled to begin later this year.

The collaboration combines Uber’s extensive network of local merchants with Zipline’s proprietary autonomous drone technology. As part of the agreement, Uber will make an investment in Zipline to support the infrastructure required for such a significant scale-up. The companies intend to position drone delivery as a faster, more sustainable alternative to traditional courier methods, aiming to integrate the service into the daily habits of consumers.

According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the partnership is designed to connect millions of people with local goods through a more efficient delivery model. Zipline co-founder Keller Cliffton framed the move as a fundamental shift in transportation, comparing the ambition to earlier revolutions that reshaped how economies function and where people live. The companies view this technology as the next step in making on-demand logistics as effortless as sending a text message.
