TrialScreen and Bectas Therapeutics Triumph at DIA 2026

Amidst a gathering of thousands of life sciences leaders in Philadelphia, TrialScreen Inc. and Bectas Therapeutics Inc. secured top honors at the Whale Tank pitch competition. The event, which drew from a pool of 100 applicants, underscored a shift toward integrating emerging innovators into the heart of global regulatory discourse.

Held from June 14-18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the DIA 2026 meeting served as a nexus for health regulators and industry figures to debate AI governance, GLP-1 therapies, and cell engineering. The Whale Tank competition, part of the new LIFT Series platform, was designed to bridge the gap between early-stage biotech startups and the investors and regulators necessary for scaling operations.

TrialScreen Inc. claimed the Clintech Blue Whale award for its clinical trial recruitment and lead-processing technology, while Bectas Therapeutics Inc. earned the Biotech Blue Whale for its work in precision monoclonal antibody cancer therapies. Other notable recognitions included FAKnostics, LLC and Samaras, which secured People's Choice awards for their respective contributions to FAK inhibitor development and AI-powered patient enrollment scaling.

Beyond the startups, the conference honored industry leaders at the National Constitution Center. Novo Nordisk received the Breakthrough Product Innovation Award for its work on GLP-1 science, while FDA official Peter Marks, PhD, MD, was recognized for his regulatory leadership. Noubar Afeyan and patient advocate Emily Whitehead were also among those celebrated for their contributions to the field. As the meeting concluded, organizers confirmed that the next global gathering will take place in San Diego from June 28 to July 1, 2027.
