ABMS Conference 2026 to Tackle Future of Board Certification

More than 400 healthcare leaders will descend upon the Loews O'Hare Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, this September to address the shifting landscape of medical certification. The ABMS Conference 2026, scheduled for September 16–18, aims to bridge the gap between evolving professional standards and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

The three-day event serves as a hub for medical specialty societies, graduate education leaders, and experts in health systems science. Attendees will navigate two plenary sessions and 40 breakout discussions designed to refine how physicians are assessed and regulated in an era of rapid industry change. Organizers have structured the program to emphasize data sharing, informatics, and the practical application of medical education research.

Key discussions will address the structural pressures facing modern medicine, including the rise of private equity ownership and the increasing push for unionization within the workforce. A plenary session featuring Catherine R. Lucey of UCSF and Harvard’s Zirui Song will unpack these trends. Additionally, the event focuses on patient advocacy, with a dedicated lecture on integrating patient perspectives into certification processes. Early registration for the conference remains open until July 31.
