Adam Driver Rules Out Return for ‘Girls’ Revival

Adam Driver will not appear in the five-episode “Girls” revival, telling CinemaBlend, “Nope, but I wish them the best of luck.” His answer comes after Lena Dunham’s memoir described alleged on-set incidents involving the actor, claims he has declined to comment on in detail.

The limited revival is set to bring back Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshana and Andrew Rannells as Elijah. Driver played Adam Sackler, Hannah’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, across all six seasons of the HBO series. The character was last seen dating Jessa, a relationship that strained her friendship with Hannah.

In “Famesick,” Dunham alleged that Driver threw a chair toward her after she forgot her lines, screamed in her face and punched a hole in his trailer wall. At the Cannes premiere of his crime drama “Paper Tiger,” Driver told Deadline, “I have no comment on any of that. I’m saving it all for my book.” The response drew laughter from the crowd.

Dunham has said she wrote about Driver honestly and described their early work experiences as complex and confusing. She also said she intended Hannah and Adam’s relationship to depict a toxic dynamic, but was surprised that some viewers found it funny, fun or sexy. In an April 2026 interview with The New York Times, she said she had not written Adam as a romantic hero.

Driver is also not planning a return to “Star Wars.” He recently said the proposed “The Hunt for Ben Solo” project had not moved forward because the character was dead, adding, “The ship has sailed.” He is attached to a “Heat” sequel directed by Michael Mann and is set to play Mister Sinister in the “X-Men” reboot, scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
