The funding provides for the establishment of the Harris-Pratt Directorship, a key leadership role for the university's AI hub slated for a 2027 launch. Recruitment for the founding director is scheduled to begin this summer. Beyond administrative infrastructure, the gift allocates $18 million to bolster three distinguished faculty positions: the Jeffrey K. Harris, Jane King Harris, and Gerald W. Harris professorships.
An additional $1 million will be funneled into the J. K. Harris Endowed Scholarship, specifically benefiting the Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholars program. RIT President Bill Sanders emphasized that the investment prioritizes human expertise in an era of rapid technological transition. Harris, a 1975 alumnus and former executive at Lockheed Martin, and Pratt, a former CIA comptroller, have maintained ties to the university since 1985, consistently backing initiatives that merge technical innovation with academic mentorship.
