Fortune shared insights into the project during a recent appearance on the Open Book podcast, noting that the adaptation is currently in the development phase with a director already attached and the script undergoing revisions. She emphasized that her initial discussions with the Duchess of Sussex and Archewell executive Tracy Ryerson focused heavily on the novel’s deeper themes, including mental health, motherhood, and the complexities of grief, rather than just the central romance.
The project, which first gained public attention in 2023, aligns with the Sussexes' ongoing efforts to expand their scripted content portfolio. Beyond the romance genre, the couple is also producing a military drama based on Major Adam Jowett’s memoir, No Way Out, which chronicles the experiences of British troops in Afghanistan. Despite lingering industry speculation regarding their financial standing and the future of their multi-year partnership with Netflix, the couple continues to move forward with a diverse slate of projects, including a scripted series centered on the world of professional polo.
