Global Health Leaders Convene in Boao to Expand Maternal Care Networks

Over 170 representatives from across Asia and Africa gathered in Boao, Hainan, from October 23 to 26 for the 2026 International Exchange on Women and Children's Health. The summit focused on leveraging digital intelligence to meet United Nations development goals while strengthening South-South medical cooperation.

The conference, themed "Digital Intelligence Empowering Women and Children's Health," served as a forum for officials and health experts to integrate resources and share practical medical technologies. Gao Xinpu of the Hainan Provincial Health Commission emphasized that the province will utilize its free trade port status to act as a bridge for international cooperation in maternal and pediatric services.

During the event, delegates highlighted China's progress in newborn care as a replicable model for Global South partners. Nadia Rasheed of the United Nations Population Fund stressed that sustained financial investment remains critical to improving long-term health outcomes, while UNICEF expert Li Nan noted that China’s specific clinical practices offer valuable benchmarks for international development.
