Keith Lee Investigates the Fast Food Chains That Refuse to Die

TikTok food critic Keith Lee has launched a viral series, “Who’s Keeping Them Alive?”, aimed at uncovering the customer base of legacy fast-food chains that appear faded yet continue to generate hundreds of millions in annual revenue. Lee is testing the menus to see if the food justifies the massive financial success.

In his latest project, Lee has visited Long John Silver’s, Golden Corral, and Church’s Chicken. The creator began with Long John Silver’s, noting that despite generating $500 million last year, the brand feels like a relic of the 1990s. While his own family expressed a lack of interest in the chain, the video garnered over 5 million views, with commenters rushing to defend their loyalty to the brand’s hush puppies and malt vinegar.

Lee’s investigation into Golden Corral, which brought in nearly $4 billion, revealed a bustling environment he described as “jumping like the club.” Despite the high volume of patrons, Lee found the food quality underwhelming, specifically citing overcooked steak. Conversely, his visit to Church’s Chicken provided a different result. After spending $22.89 in Dallas, Lee praised the service and the quality of the fried chicken, ultimately declaring that he could finally see why the chain remains a top performer. He concluded that he would be adding his own name to the list of regulars, marking a rare instance in the series where he found the menu lived up to the company’s $1.2 billion in annual earnings.
