Lori Loughlin Recalls the Financial Desperation That Preceded Full House

Before she became a household name as Aunt Becky, Lori Loughlin faced a precarious financial turning point. Facing a string of failed pilots and industry strikes, the actress found herself unable to cover her California rent, forcing her to issue a blunt ultimatum to her agent just to secure work.

The plea for employment resulted in a six-episode contract for the ABC sitcom Full House, a role that eventually anchored her career for seven seasons. Speaking on the podcast Cart Blanche with John Battagliese, Loughlin described the opportunity as a lifeline. Her arrival on set sparked immediate chemistry with co-stars John Stamos and Dave Coulier, with the latter famously predicting that Loughlin would remain part of their professional circle permanently.

Loughlin’s journey to the sitcom followed a childhood in modeling and a breakout role in the soap opera The Edge of Night, where she famously bluffed her way through a dance audition. While her post-Full House career saw fluctuations, including the cancellation of Hudson Street, her life faced significantly greater turbulence in 2019. Following her involvement in a college admissions scandal, which resulted in a two-month prison sentence, Loughlin has sought a professional reset. She recently returned to television in the police drama On Call, framing her past legal troubles as a difficult but definitive learning experience.
