Tamarack Resort Scales Snowmaking to Capture Short Cold Windows

The project centers on the installation of TechnoAlpin TT10 tower-mounted fan guns, which provide permanent, high-output snowmaking on the Waltz and Serenity trails. Previously, manual deployment of mobile equipment during brief two- to four-hour temperature drops proved inefficient. These new automated units trigger instantly when conditions permit, effectively capturing cold windows that were once lost to setup time. The expansion extends snowmaking capabilities to more than 20% of the resort’s existing terrain.

Beyond the hardware, the site work includes laying 1,515 feet of ductile iron water pipeline and 1,600 feet of electrical cabling. This infrastructure shift allows the resort’s mountain operations team to redeploy its existing mobile snowmaking fleet to other critical areas, such as the Discovery and Showtime runs. According to COO Kara Finley, the primary goal remains extending the season length for guests, with President Scott Turlington noting that the technology finally bridges the gap between available water resources and the ability to distribute snow across the mountain effectively.
