Northwestern Mutual Expands Childhood Cancer Support to $75 Million

The company’s latest initiative focuses on bolstering the financial resilience of families navigating pediatric cancer while providing professional development for hospital staff. As part of this rollout, registered nurse Katy Tomlinson became the inaugural recipient of the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Healthcare Hero Award, which honors those demonstrating exceptional care for patients and their families.

Beyond direct hospital grants, the firm is leveraging its community partnerships to drive September fundraising efforts. Through the "Research Batted In" program with the Milwaukee Brewers, the company funds five hours of research for every RBI hit by the team. Additionally, Northwestern Mutual has pledged up to $2 million for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, donating $100 for every new financial plan delivered to prospective clients throughout the month. Since 2012, these combined efforts have funded over 860,000 hours of research and supported hundreds of students through scholarship programs.
