PG&E and California Fire Foundation Distribute $1 Million for Wildfire Safety

This distribution marks the ninth year of a partnership designed to address the state's escalating fire risks. According to the California Fire Foundation, the funds were selected from over 200 applications and are designated for the purchase of specialized protective equipment, vegetation management, and public safety outreach. The grants are a central component of the 2026 Wildfire Safety and Preparedness Program, which has now funneled $6.5 million into local agencies since 2018.

Beyond direct equipment purchases, the program emphasizes the removal of hazardous brush and the maintenance of fuel breaks. Officials noted that the funding is shareholder-supported rather than collected from utility customers. The effort also includes a multilingual public education campaign, ensuring fire safety messaging reaches residents in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Hmong, reflecting a push to overcome language barriers in vulnerable regions.
