Tampa Bay Rays Wins Translate Into $93,000 for Florida Utility Relief

The funds flow directly into the Share the Light Fund, a program designed to assist income-restricted households with electric, gas, and heating bills. Duke Energy Florida state president Melissa Seixas noted that the long-standing partnership with the baseball franchise allows the utility to reach families facing unexpected financial hardship. The program aims to prevent temporary setbacks from spiraling into long-term instability for vulnerable residents.

Beyond this sports-related initiative, the Share the Light Fund draws contributions from employees, shareholders, and customers, with the Foundation matching up to $500,000 annually. Since the start of 2026, the fund has distributed over $436,000 to local agencies, following a total of nearly $650,000 provided throughout 2025. These resources are distributed through a network of nonprofits, such as Daystar Life in Pinellas County and the Heart of Florida United Way, which provide a critical safety net for working families struggling to balance rising living costs.
