Central Michigan University Unveils Record $237 Million Campaign

With over $237 million already secured, Central Michigan University has officially launched Forge the Future, the largest fundraising effort in its history. The campaign, which began its quiet phase in 2021, aims to redefine student support, academic innovation, and community impact through 2031.

President Neil MacKinnon framed the initiative as a commitment to long-term resilience, noting that the funds will bolster scholarships, campus facilities, and specialized academic programming. The effort has already yielded nearly $83 million in the 2026 fiscal year alone, proving that donor engagement is reaching unprecedented levels.

The university’s strategic focus rests on four pillars: enhancing student experiences, fostering connectivity across the alumni network, expanding global impact, and supporting overarching institutional initiatives. These priorities are already manifesting in tangible projects, such as the construction of the MyMichigan Health CMU Medical Education Building in Saginaw and new programs dedicated to student wellness and resilience.

Sarah Opperman, co-chair of the National Campaign Steering Committee, emphasized that the goal extends beyond balance sheets. By providing students with consistent access to resources and professional networks, the university intends to strengthen its influence on local and global communities alike. With the public phase now underway, the institution plans to maintain this momentum through June 2031.
