Vistra Corp. Reports Surge in Second Quarter Earnings

Irving-based Vistra Corp. posted a 30% jump in ongoing operations adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2026, reaching $1.767 billion. The energy giant maintained its full-year guidance as it expanded its footprint in digital infrastructure through a new partnership with NVIDIA, KKR, and the Kuwait Investment Authority.

Vistra reported net income of $305 million for the quarter ending June 30, a figure tempered by $472 million in unrealized losses from long-term hedging positions. Despite these accounting adjustments, CEO Jim Burke emphasized the company's operational strength, citing 97% commercial availability across its power fleet during recent bouts of extreme heat in Texas and the PJM market.

Strategic growth remains a priority for the firm. Vistra recently committed $1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, a collaborative venture designed to support the energy needs of data centers. Additionally, the company secured Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval for its acquisition of Cogentrix Energy. With roughly $6.3 billion in available liquidity and a share repurchase program that has already retired 30% of its outstanding shares since 2021, Vistra continues to consolidate its position as a primary player in the transition to more resilient energy markets.
