Rivermont Schools Expands Therapeutic Education to Midlothian

The new Midlothian site is designed specifically to accommodate students who struggle in traditional classroom settings. The infrastructure includes 10 classrooms, four dedicated therapy rooms, and two sensory-regulated spaces intended to help students manage stress and maintain academic engagement. A gymnasium and playground area round out the facility, supporting both physical development and structured social interaction.

Principal Cynthia Heckstall emphasized that the school relies on a collaborative framework involving families and local districts to ensure consistency between home and school life. The curriculum integrates evidence-based practices such as Applied Behavior Analysis and trauma-informed instruction. Rivermont, which operates under the New Story network, is currently processing student referrals and hiring staff ahead of the official launch. The August 13 open house will run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., offering local families and district partners a chance to tour the specialized environment.
