Freedom Factory Unveils PQ1 Quantum-Proof Hardware Wallet

As quantum computing capabilities outpace security benchmarks, San Francisco-based Freedom Factory has introduced the PQ1, a hardware wallet designed to withstand future decryption threats. The device, which bypasses the need for immediate blockchain protocol upgrades, offers a safeguard for Ethereum and EVM-compatible assets.

The PQ1 utilizes the SPHINCS+C10 hashing algorithm integrated within ERC-4337 smart accounts to enable quantum-resistant transaction signing. By prioritizing self-custody, the device addresses the vulnerability of current ECDSA-based signatures, which remain susceptible to advanced computational attacks. CEO Markus Haas emphasized that relying on existing protocol upgrades is insufficient, as the underlying signature methods themselves require a fundamental shift.

Beyond quantum resistance, the device features dual secure enclaves to isolate private keys and local transaction decoding to eliminate blind signing risks. The hardware and firmware are fully open-source, allowing for public auditability of the security architecture. Pre-orders are currently open, with global shipping scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026 at a retail price of $179.
