Galaxy Digital to Build Large-Scale AI Data Center in McGregor, Texas

Galaxy Digital is expanding its high-performance computing footprint with the acquisition of 500 acres in McGregor, Texas. The company, which already operates a 1.6-gigawatt facility in West Texas, plans to transform the site into a multi-hundred-megawatt campus designed specifically for artificial intelligence and intensive data processing workloads.

The project, located within the McGregor Industrial Park, represents a strategic move to address the surging long-term demand for compute infrastructure. Under a development agreement with the City of McGregor, Galaxy has already provided $7.5 million in land-sale revenue. Initial development is slated to reach 74 MW, with operations expected to commence in 2028. Following the completion of necessary transmission upgrades, the company projects the site could scale significantly by 2030.

Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz emphasized that the company intends to replicate the community-focused model it established in Dickens County. The agreement includes provisions for Galaxy to fund and construct a private electrical substation, ensuring that local ratepayers are insulated from infrastructure costs. Furthermore, the company has committed to adding an estimated $130 million to the local property tax base and implementing water-efficient, closed-loop cooling systems. Construction will involve hundreds of trade partners, with permanent roles planned for the facility's ongoing operations.
