Butlin's launches world's largest automated bar network

Holidaymakers at Butlin’s resorts in Bognor Regis, Minehead, and Skegness can now bypass traditional queues, as the operator has completed the installation of 119 automated BoxBar terminals. This rollout marks the first time a global holiday resort has integrated self-serve drink technology on such a massive scale.

The deployment covers the full range of BoxBar hardware, including mobile units, containers, and fixed TapWall systems. By blending these formats, Butlin's aims to maintain service capacity across varied indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces while adapting to fluctuations in guest demand. The machines are capable of pouring two drinks in six seconds, with the combined network across all three sites processing hundreds of beverages per minute.

Heidi Watson, Head of Innovation at Butlin's, noted that the technology is specifically intended to streamline the guest experience during peak periods, such as the school summer holidays. The system is fully integrated with the resort's existing infrastructure, including its All Inclusive Drinks package. Reshad Hossenally, CEO of BoxBar Tech, highlighted that the scale of the operation demonstrates how automation can effectively manage the intense, near-constant demand cycles inherent in a venue that hosts 1.5 million guests annually.
