Baldoni and his wife, Emily, exited their home in Ojai, California, to settle in Nashville, hoping to shield their two children from the media scrutiny that defined their recent months. An insider familiar with the move attributed the decision to safety concerns, alleging that the couple’s home address was compromised by Lively’s legal team on two occasions. The couple recently addressed the ordeal in an emotional social media video, describing the experience as traumatic and expressing a desire for normalcy.
Despite the change in scenery, the conflict remains active in federal court. Baldoni’s legal team recently filed a motion urging a judge to reject or substantially reduce Lively’s request for $8 million in litigation costs. Attorneys for Baldoni argued that the demand is unreasonable, citing overstaffing and 7,000 billable hours logged by 82 timekeepers. They contrasted this figure with the defense costs of The New York Times in a similar defamation case, which totaled approximately $181,600.
Lively’s representatives maintain that the fee request serves as a necessary consequence for what they describe as a retaliatory lawsuit. In court documents, her team argued that the scope of the litigation required extensive resources and that the dismissal of Baldoni’s claims set a precedent for protecting those who speak out. While Baldoni’s camp seeks to minimize the financial impact, the legal back-and-forth continues to overshadow his efforts to move forward.
