The incident unfolded quickly when Carney’s partner, Graham, left the bottle of heart medication on a table. Before the couple realized the danger, the dog had carried the container out through a doggy door. It was only through the intervention of Tornado’s mother, Miss Spitfire, who jumped on Carney to alert her to the mischief, that the situation was caught before it escalated into a fatal event. Carney discovered the chewed bottle with only one pill remaining and immediately contacted the Pet Poison Helpline.
Veterinary experts emphasized that minoxidil exposure poses severe cardiovascular risks, including dangerous fluctuations in heart rate and blood pressure. Tornado was first taken to the Animal Hospital of Regency Park to induce vomiting, then transferred to BluePearl Pet Hospital Clearwater for specialized cardiovascular monitoring. While the puppy developed significant tachycardia, the medical team successfully stabilized him with activated charcoal and intravenous fluids. After an overnight observation, Tornado was released and has since returned to his usual high-energy behavior. Dr. Renee Schmid, a senior veterinary toxicologist, noted that the rapid decision to seek professional care was the deciding factor in the dog's recovery.
