The partnership centers on the implementation of Zum’s Connected Mobility Experience (CMX) system. This platform provides parents and administrators with map-based ride tracking, AI-driven arrival estimates, and automated rider verification. By moving away from traditional dispatch methods, the district intends to shorten commute times and improve overall route efficiency, which the provider claims maintains a 98% on-time performance rate across its current network.
Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero noted that the district sought a provider capable of balancing safety requirements with modern, user-friendly communication tools. For families, the shift promises a mobile application interface that offers live updates on bus locations and student boarding status. Zum, which manages similar contracts in districts including Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, will also oversee driver recruitment and training to address the ongoing national shortage of personnel. The transition marks a significant infrastructure upgrade for the Connecticut district, focusing on reducing parental anxiety through transparency and technological oversight.
