Make-A-Wish Opens Nominations for Second Annual Starblazer Awards

For children facing critical illness, a wish often marks a pivot point toward resilience. With the return of the Starblazer Awards, Make-A-Wish is seeking former recipients who have translated that early experience into professional leadership, aiming to highlight the long-term emotional impact of the organization's work.

The national recognition program honors wish alumni whose personal and professional trajectories demonstrate the enduring influence of these experiences. By showcasing these stories, the organization challenges the common misconception that its work is limited to terminal care, emphasizing instead the role of hope in navigating complex medical journeys and long-term recovery.

Nominations are currently open to the public at wish.org/starblazer. Leslie Motter, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America, noted that these alumni serve as living evidence of the program's reach, illustrating how a single experience can fundamentally reshape a child’s vision of what is possible. The initiative is supported by founding donor Allied World, which has sponsored over 50 individual wishes and remains a primary partner in expanding the awards' national footprint alongside private contributors including the John Dawson Foundation and the Martino family.
