The project, titled Production 02074, functions as a deep-dive digital archive featuring original images from the set and rare anecdotes from Spielberg himself. Soderbergh, who estimates he has viewed the blockbuster more than 30 times, launched the app on the Apple Store this June for $24.99, with proceeds benefiting animal charities. He credits the sudden cancellation of his Star Wars collaboration with Adam Driver for providing the necessary window to finally finalize the labor-intensive work.
Soderbergh remains pragmatic about the rejection, noting that he avoids wasting energy on industry decisions beyond his influence. While he acknowledged the frustration of studio executives failing to grasp his vision for the Ben Solo narrative, he emphasized that a director’s primary responsibility is to remain active rather than mulling over lost opportunities. For Soderbergh, the experience serves as a lesson for aspiring filmmakers: finishing a project, regardless of its scale, is a vital discipline that separates creators from those who remain stuck in development. He maintains that his own commitment to completion—spanning 19 years in the case of this Jaws tribute—is what defines his career trajectory.
