Rockwell Automation Unveils FactoryTalk Orchestration at Automate

At the Automate trade show in Chicago, Rockwell Automation introduced FactoryTalk Orchestration, a software platform engineered to synchronize material handling and production workflows. The tool aims to bridge the gap between isolated automated machinery and enterprise-wide systems, shifting the focus from individual robotic deployments to unified, factory-wide logistics.

The software, built on the FactoryTalk Optix platform, serves as a central nervous system for plant operations. By integrating OTTO autonomous mobile robots with existing enterprise software, it provides a layer of real-time coordination meant to eliminate throughput bottlenecks and improve agility in the face of shifting market demand. Ara Surenian, the company's Production Logistics Business Manager, noted that the industry is moving past the phase of simply adding robots, toward a model where those technologies must communicate and function as a single, cohesive entity.

Early implementation at the company’s own manufacturing site in Twinsburg, Ohio, demonstrates the potential impact. Operators there reported a 70% improvement in drop-off zone space utilization and a 50% reduction in overall material handling footprint. Rockwell is currently scaling the software across its global manufacturing network. Attendees at the Chicago event, running June 22–25, can view the technology in action at booth S2267, where it is being demonstrated alongside digital twin software and mobile robotics.
