Cheche Group Shifts Toward AI with New Intelligent Underwriting Agent

Beijing-based Cheche Group has launched ABAO Agent, an AI-powered system designed to automate auto insurance renewals. By leveraging proprietary large language models, the company aims to move beyond simple transaction services, positioning the tool as a primary driver for cost reduction and efficiency in the competitive Chinese insurance market.

The platform is currently deployed at scale, handling the entire renewal cycle without human intervention. This includes automated customer outreach, policy identification, and final conversion. By replacing labor-intensive manual workflows with autonomous agents, Cheche Group seeks to lower operational overhead for its carrier partners while maintaining consistent service levels.

Lei Zhang, founder and CEO of Cheche Group, described the agent as the cornerstone of the company’s transition into an AI-driven insurtech firm. According to Zhang, the technology relies on years of accumulated insurance data and specific industry algorithms. Future development will focus on expanding these AI capabilities across the entire insurance lifecycle, including claims processing and risk management, particularly for the expanding New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sector.
