The franchise has remained dormant since the 2002 release of Goldmember, despite Myers previously maintaining a stance of neither confirming nor denying a potential sequel. While the actor offered no further details during the broadcast, his direct answer marks a significant departure from his 2024 comments, where he simply noted there were more stories to tell within the universe.
Historical interest in a fourth installment has centered on Dr. Evil’s perspective. As early as 2012, Myers suggested to IGN that any future film would likely shift focus toward the villain rather than the titular spy. The project’s long hiatus has often been linked to the 2018 death of Verne Troyer, who played Mini-Me. Clint Howard, a recurring cast member, previously speculated that Myers was hesitant to continue the series without his late co-star. However, director Jay Roach has indicated that if Myers does move forward, the film would likely serve as a tribute to Troyer’s character. Recent momentum for the franchise was bolstered by a Verizon commercial featuring Myers, Seth Green, Rob Lowe, and Mindy Sterling, which reunited the core creative team behind the original trilogy.
