The celebration, dubbed A Soaring Salute, bridges the gap between recreation and remembrance. On July 3, the resort’s North Course serves as the primary hub, hosting the annual Firecracker 5K/10K Run & Walk and a high-stakes Honor Flight Golf Scramble. Spectators can witness a formal Presentation of Colors by the Galena American Legion and VFW Post 2665, followed by immersive encampments from the Secondary Infantry Division WWII Reenactors, who will display period-accurate vehicles and equipment.
General manager Steve Geisz noted that the event aims to provide a space for community members to honor the sacrifices made by veterans while supporting the Honor Flight of Dubuque and the Tri-States, a nonprofit that facilitates trips to Washington, D.C. memorials. The festivities shift on July 4 to the Shenandoah Riding Center for a family-oriented Barn Party, featuring live performances by the Midwest Renegades and Ten Gallon Hat, alongside a petting zoo and pony rides.
While most activities are open to the public, registration is required for the golf tournament. Resort officials expect the combination of historical demonstrations and holiday entertainment to draw visitors from across Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, reinforcing the property's role as a regional hub for major holiday programming.
