Lockheed Martin and GM Defense Partner to Scale Military Production

Under a new memorandum of understanding facilitated by the U.S. Department of War, Lockheed Martin and GM Defense are joining forces to bridge the gap between commercial industrial efficiency and defense manufacturing, aiming to accelerate the delivery of critical technologies and strengthen the domestic supply chain.

The partnership leverages Lockheed Martin’s extensive defense production experience alongside General Motors’ sophisticated high-rate commercial manufacturing infrastructure. The companies plan to target three primary objectives: reinforcing defense supply chains, advancing design capabilities, and expanding production capacity to meet the growing demand for rapid, large-scale deployment of mission-critical systems.

Frank St. John, chief operating officer at Lockheed Martin, emphasized that national security now hinges on the ability to produce advanced technologies with greater speed and reliability. By integrating proven commercial manufacturing approaches, the collaboration seeks to shorten production timelines while maintaining the rigorous quality standards required for aerospace and defense applications. Steve duMont, president of GM Defense, noted that the firms will spend the coming weeks identifying specific initial projects to pursue, setting a new benchmark for cross-sector innovation in the American defense industrial base.
