The funds support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Bristol Children’s Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. Each institution has received £1 million to bolster specialist equipment, vital care, and family support services. According to Andrew Murphy, Group Chief Executive Officer of The Entertainer, the program channels the retailer’s focus on play toward providing comfort for seriously ill children.
This success coincides with a broader shift in digital giving as Currys expands its own partnership with Pennies. The technology retailer is transitioning its donation model to its e-commerce platform, allowing its 500,000 daily website visitors to contribute 25p or 50p at checkout. This initiative aims to address digital poverty in the UK, where one in five children currently lacks the hardware necessary for education and essential services. By integrating these micro-donations online, Currys expects to double the fundraising capacity previously limited to in-store card terminals.
