Celebrity Halloween Costumes Trigger Public Backlash

Halloween 2026 transformed into a minefield for several celebrities whose costume choices sparked widespread outrage rather than applause. From trivializing historical tragedies to mocking personal vulnerabilities, these high-profile displays prompted accusations of insensitivity, forcing several stars to delete their posts or issue public apologies for their misjudged festive efforts.

Jessica Alba faced immediate scrutiny after posing as Tonya Harding alongside Kelly Sawyer as Nancy Kerrigan. By featuring a bandaged, bloodied knee and a baseball bat, the pair referenced the 1994 assault on the figure skater, a move critics labeled as immature and a mockery of real-world violence. Alba eventually removed the images from her social media account.

Elsewhere, Martha Stewart attempted to highlight homelessness with a costume featuring a "Hunger" sign, but the effort backfired. The Food Research and Action Center condemned the choice, noting that poverty is not a costume. Stewart later issued an apology, acknowledging the display was insensitive. Similarly, reality star McCall DaPron drew intense criticism for orchestrating a family photoshoot that reenacted the day of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, with her young children dressed as the late president and his family. The post was removed following accusations that she had trivialized a national tragedy.

Not all controversies resulted in an apology. North West faced accusations of bullying for wearing an exaggerated prosthetic chin to mimic Natalie Nunn, though Nunn appeared amused, ultimately dressing as North in return. Meanwhile, Paris Hilton defended her family's Disney-themed costumes against claims of narcissism, clarifying that her daughter had specifically requested to portray the character Chip.
