The franchise, which grossed $4.5 billion across five installments, has struggled to find its footing for a sixth entry since Depp’s departure. While the actor previously claimed no amount of money could convince him to return, his recent comments to Entertainment Tonight suggest a softened stance. He emphasized that his primary motivation would be to give the character a proper send-off, contingent on the project being handled by his longtime collaborator, Jerry Bruckheimer.
Bruckheimer remains the central figure attempting to bridge the gap between the studio and the star. Having confirmed ongoing discussions about a new screenplay, the producer has been vocal about his desire to bring the original cast back together. Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush have also expressed interest in reprising their roles, provided the script warrants a return. Despite Disney’s officially non-committal stance, the possibility of a reunion hinges on whether the studio can satisfy the creative conditions required to bring back the man who turned Captain Jack Sparrow into a global icon.
