Mike Rogers Accepts Donation From Group Seeking Federal Abortion Ban

A $5,000 donation from the National Pro-Life Alliance to Mike Rogers' Senate campaign has renewed scrutiny of the Republican candidate's stance on reproductive rights. The contribution arrived on October 23, fueling concerns among advocates that the former congressman intends to support federal restrictions despite his recent public assurances.

The National Pro-Life Alliance has long campaigned for the Life at Conception Act, a measure that would prohibit all abortions without exceptions for rape, incest, or maternal health. Federal Election Commission filings confirm the transfer occurred just as early voting commenced in Michigan, marking a significant infusion of support from a group that previously required candidates to endorse their hardline platform in exchange for funding.

Shanay Watson-Whittaker, director of Michigan campaigns at Reproductive Freedom for All, described the donation as a clear signal of the group’s expectations. While Rogers previously claimed he would not seek to overturn the reproductive rights codified by Michigan voters in 2022, his legislative record tells a different story. During his 14 years in Congress, he sponsored multiple fetal "personhood" bills and supported a national 20-week abortion ban. In a questionnaire for the Michigan Catholic Conference, he explicitly stated his opposition to abortion in all instances except to preserve the life of the mother, casting doubt on his current campaign rhetoric.
