The project emerged less than four months after Musk promised a version that would be both historically accurate and true to Homer’s vision. Despite attracting over seven million views on X, the reception has been overwhelmingly negative. Critics pointed to technical glitches, a lack of emotional depth, and bizarre historical inconsistencies, such as the inclusion of medieval tunics and Romanesque architecture in a setting meant to depict ancient Greece.
Musk’s foray into filmmaking follows his vocal disapproval of Nolan’s production, specifically targeting the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. Aligning with commentators like Matt Walsh, Musk suggested that the casting choice was driven by ideological trends rather than artistic merit. Nyong’o has since dismissed the controversy, emphasizing that her performance is representative of the modern world and that she refuses to engage with critics focused on narrow beauty metrics. Meanwhile, professional filmmakers like Scott Derrickson have publicly dismissed Musk’s critique of the industry as worthless.
