Pang-An Ting, Vice President of ITRI’s Information and Communications Research Laboratories, emphasized that the global transition from simple data transmission to token-based AI computing requires a fundamental change in industrial architecture. Future networks will no longer cater exclusively to human users, but must support a complex ecosystem of autonomous agents, drones, and robotics. To bridge this gap, ITRI is prioritizing the development of AI-RAN and integrated sensing capabilities to help domestic firms maintain a competitive edge in global markets.
Practical applications are already moving from research labs to industrial floors. A notable example is the AI-driven network orchestration solution developed alongside Pegatron and G REIGNS. This system functions as a continuous network manager, which field tests indicate can slash recovery times by 97% while boosting overall performance by half. Similarly, the Institute’s indoor inspection drones utilize visual-inertial odometry to map and navigate warehouses autonomously, drastically cutting the time required for manual inventory audits.
Beyond individual hardware breakthroughs, the event serves as a hub for systemic AI adoption. ITRI has launched an advisory initiative connecting 15 research organizations with industry partners across the chemical, semiconductor, and manufacturing sectors. By establishing specific demonstration sites, the program aims to guide over 1,400 companies through the complexities of scaling AI models in real-world environments.
